Thursday, November 27. 2008 New Ebola subtype discoveredPosted by in NewsComments (0) | Trackbacks (0)
In a joint effort, researchers from the United States and Uganda have discovered an Ebola subtype responsible for a recent outbreak of hemorraghic fever in the East African country. In their paper, accesible on PLoS, they state that „the virus is genetically distinct, differing by more than 30% at the genome level from all other known ebolavirus species“. Efforts to design „effective diagnostics, antivirals and vaccines will need to take into account the distinct nature of this important new member of the filovirus family“, they continue. On Scienceblogs, contributor Tara C. Smith provides some background information; also, an intense discussion about the relevance of the results is going on.
Sunday, November 23. 2008 Enlarge your groupsPosted by ResearchGate Team in FeaturesComments (0) | Trackbacks (0) Many of our members asked for more flexibility when inviting researchers to join groups. Therefore, we now introduce a feature that allows you to send group invitations to colleagues that are not members of ResearchGATE yet. If you want to invite several researchers at the same time, simply separate the email addresses by commas, spaces, breaks, etc. ![]() Just copy & paste a bulk of emails seperated by different methods spaces, enters, commas...) and add a personal message.

Based on your feedback, we updated several applications:
1.) We added a new option to ReVote, our survey tool. It allows you to define whether or not the members of the group are allowed to view the results of the poll. ![]() The new option "result visible" is framed red. 2.) In group posts, hyperlinks are now "clickable".
3.) Under the new menu point "Researchtools", you find detailed information on the applications available to you.

Wednesday, November 12. 2008 Ambiguous result for HIV vaccine trialPosted by in NewsComment (1) | Trackbacks (0)
Eric Kremer of the University of Montpellier, France and his lab recently completed a STEP / Phambili HIV vaccine trial that left the AIDS research community in a state of gloom. The adenovirus vector used by the team prompted antibody production in people previously infected with Adv5, stimulating T-Cells, hence allowing infection of T-Cells by HIV-1 to be three times faster. The data providing the basis of this mechanism is largely in vitro and may not be the full story. Regardless, the outcome of the trials is a setback to the HIV vaccine research field and careful consideration must be taken when selecting the vector backbone for intended delivery systems.

To make them even more useful, we upgraded our database to include the content of several major scientific databases, namely PubMed, Citeseer, RePEc, ArXiv, IEEE, NASA. Currently, more than 30.000.000 scientific articles from a broad range of scientific fields are included. Searching for keywords is one thing - relating research output based on content is another. We developed semantic tools that are able to do that. ![]() Accessible databases with total number of articles Continue reading "Build your own library" ResearchGATE received a facelift: Please try out our new welcome page and check out all the fresh information you get there.
